An under-sink water filter is a point-of-use system designed specifically to purify the cold drinking water coming from a single tap, usually in the kitchen. These compact units are highly effective at removing chlorine, bad tastes, and odours for drinking and cooking, making them an affordable and popular choice for most households.

A whole-house filtration system, however, is installed directly at your property's main water meter, filtering every single drop of water before it enters your home. This means you enjoy purified water not just from the kitchen sink, but in your showers, washing machine, and bathroom basins, which protects your skin from harsh chlorine and your appliances from heavy sediment buildup.

Standard carbon block and sediment filters are excellent at removing chlorine, dirt, and rust, but they do not typically remove dissolved fluoride. If your primary goal is to completely strip fluoride and heavy metals from your drinking water, a standard twin-stage under-sink setup will simply not be sufficient.

To effectively remove fluoride, we need to install a specialised Reverse Osmosis (RO) system. These advanced units force water through a semi-permeable membrane at high pressure, stripping away almost all dissolved solids, including fluoride, lead, and microscopic impurities, leaving you with water in its absolute purest form.

The lifespan of a filter cartridge depends heavily on the volume of water your household consumes and the initial quality of the scheme water entering the system. As a general rule for standard residential under-sink and whole-house systems, we highly recommend replacing the carbon and sediment cartridges every six to twelve months.

If you leave a filter cartridge in place for too long, it will eventually reach its maximum absorption capacity and stop purifying the water completely. In severe cases, a clogged, overdue filter will drastically reduce your water pressure and can even become a breeding ground for bacteria, completely defeating the purpose of having a system installed.

We always caution our clients to ensure any customer-supplied system carries the official Australian WaterMark certification. Installing cheap, non-compliant imported filters is illegal and highly risky, as their thin plastic housings frequently crack under fluctuating mains water pressure, leading to catastrophic under-sink flooding.

A properly sized and professionally installed whole-house filtration system should not cause a noticeable drop in your daily water pressure. We carefully calculate your property's peak water flow demands before selecting the appropriate pipe sizing and high-flow filter housings to ensure your showers and taps perform exactly as they did before.

However, if you notice your water pressure gradually decreasing months after the installation, it is actually a sign that the system is doing its job perfectly. The sediment filter is likely full of dirt and rust captured from the incoming water supply, naturally restricting the flow. A simple cartridge replacement will instantly restore your property's water pressure back to normal.
